Our Programs
Tutoring Program
The ministry also provides in person and group tutoring classes throughout the week to students in 1st-6th grade. Most schools in Honduras are overloaded with students, and many parents never learned to read or write, so struggling kids have no where to turn for extra help. Because of this, there are many 3rd/4th/5th graders who have never even learned to read, but continue to get passed along grade to grade because of the weak education system. With our tutoring classes, we prevent kids from falling behind, while also helping the older kids learn the basics and catch up to grade level before their frustration causes them to drop out altogether. Our teachers Edmy and Heydi have a huge heart to teach, encourage, and love these children, many of whom come from difficult homes. We give weekly Bible classes to teach them about God’s incredible love for them, and throughout the year, the students go on field trips to parks or to the local zoo to celebrate all of their hard work .
Christian Counseling
In 2023, we began providing Christian counseling with a very experienced Christian psychologist to the kids who need it the most. Quality mental health services are almost impossible to come by in this country, especially for those living in extreme poverty. This service is specifically for students with learning disabilities, kids removed from their school due to behavioral problems or violent tendencies, kids going through traumatic situations or unhealthy home environments, and those who simply need a safe space to talk through the difficulties of life in a very complicated neighborhood. We’ve seen how dramatically this opportunity can change the outlook and the lives of many precious students and their families!
Community Events
Throughout the year, we host community events to provide quality time for families to spend together, as well as opportunities to share the Gospel through local pastors. We celebrate Christmas at the end of the year while we also hosting a formal graduation dinner for our graduates each year! We’ve also celebrated Mother’s Day by providing a day at a local park for all of our sponsored families, to encourage and strengthen family bonds, while also giving them a day of pure fun outside the normal daily routine.
Emergency Aid
Many times in the community we serve, God calls us to meet the physical needs of His people in very practical ways. We may donate food bags to hungry families, formula for a baby in need, or medicine for someone in crisis..
