Creating Space to Serve

It’s been incredible to see how through the years and through this ministry, God has opened the door for so many people to have the opportunity to be generous and love on this community - people who previously would have had no connection! God ordered my steps to somehow connect me to this community thousands of miles away from where I grew up, and now all of our donors are uniquely connected as well. Here locally, Doña Irma and our psychologist have both dedicated themselves to certain initiatives after having their hearts stirred by what they witness in this community they’d previously never entered, including donating homemade food, organizing collections of baby items and clothes among their friends, etc. And not to mention our teachers! Though they are long time residents of the community, they never imagined they’d be in and out of so many homes, becoming intimately invested in the lives of so many of their neighbors, certainly in a neighborhood where it’s safest just to keep to yourself.
One great example of this is pictured below. A couple times a year, our tutoring students are blessed one of the friends of the ministry - Doña Irma, who is also the owner of the small business where we purchase all of our school supplies. This time she made them homemade sandwiches, baleadas, and brownies, and she even hiked up to the classroom with me to deliver them in person, along with an encouraging word.
It’s so cool to see how God works and how he opens doors for us all to be part of His bigger plan in places we may never expect!
