Mother’s Day 2024

One of the biggest days in Honduras is Mother’s Day, so we made sure to make it one to remember for these hard working, strong, resilient mothers we work with on a daily basis. These moms are faced daily with challenges most of us never have to experience. They raise their children in an area where temptation, drugs, and the pull of the gang exist around every corner. To simply have water in their homes, many of them have to carry it, bucket by bucket, up the hill to their houses. To wash clothes during dry season, they have to hike down to the river, spend all day hand washing clothes, then haul the heavy sack back up to their neighborhood. They work hard, making every last lempira stretch, many times forgoing food themselves to make sure their kids have full bellies. They fight hard to support their kids in their studies, to give them the chance they never personally had.

Almost 70 mother’s attended our event - moms of the students enrolled in our tutoring classes - and were blessed with a day full of love and inspiration, good food, games and laughs, and gifts and recognition from their children. The kids prepared songs, poetry and dances for the group, and each child presented their mom with a well deserved rose. They all shared a hearty meal together and felt so loved and appreciated.

An extra blessing this year was the huge donation of food bags for each of the mothers to take home. This blessing came courtesy of a partnership with a local university, Universidad Tecnológico de Honduras, which I’ll share more about in a separate post.

Enjoy the pictures from our event!
